Yeni Kuti (daughter of the legendary Fela Kuti) came to Australia from Nigeria to teach some Afrobeat workshops. Melbourne Djembe hosted one of these workshops in Brunswick. Yeni taught the class some traditional moves that she has performed in the past with Fela’s band, concentrating on pelvis isolation. She also discussed her father’s life and some of the trials he was put through for his political activism.
Yeni’s workshops was very well attended and there were lots of laughs! Thanks to everyone who came along.
