Adama Jewel started her study of African dance in 1990, under Baba Ramon Sylla from Senegal, West Africa. Adama says “meeting him and Papa Camara changed my life and I’ve been studying every since”.
Adama has been to Africa eight times, and plans to go back this year to work with Tacko Sissokho and the National Ballet. She has studied extensively in the US under Mouminatou Camara, Youssouf Koumbassa and Moustapha Bangoura, as well as many Senegalese and Liberian artists.
Adama currently works as a professor at UC Irvine, teaching traditional African Dance and Culture
