Melbourne Djembe drum, dance and dundun dance students performed for the second time at this annual event at Federation Square. We attracted a big crowd, some of whom jumped up on stage and had a boogie with us!
Beginner dancers performed Yankadi – a dance of seduction from Guinea, West Africa. Our performance ensemble Wassawumba commenced with Sunu (Mali) and then picked up the pace with Gbegbe (which originates from Ivory Coast). Finally, the dundun dancers finished the show with their high-energy Djole.
The outdoor stage at Federation Square was the perfect space for our big sounds. Thanks to all the students who came and generated so much joy and energy. Check out the video!
